Following the cocktail reception will be a fashion show showcasing fashions from Eva's Bridal and Sebastien Grey Clothiers with hair and makeup provided by Créer {CRE·ATE} Beauty.Image.Style.

The first 100 guests will receive a gift bag with goodies from Créer {CRE·ATE} Beauty.Image.Style. and participating vendors, all guests will be able to enter into our raffle contest that includes a free photography session upon many other freebies. As I keep seeing the same commercial over and over for The Hangover 2 telling me to buy it for the holidays and that it's also available on Blue-Ray, I realize that I haven't seen it. Like everyone else, I saw the first one and loved it- but I'm not one for sequels. Trilogies, Series, Sagas, yes- but just a comedy sequel... ehhh. First question to you, is it worth it? Thoughts?

But this also made me think that as wedding season is winding down so is bachelor/bachelorette party season. On the plus side, the bars are not as crowded. But I won't lie, I always miss the trolleys in the winter not only as a patron but as well as a witness to the dancing bachelorettes and shouting bachelors as they drive down Lincoln Ave. I always say when riding a trolley, don't forget that you probably paid for the city crawl and could BYOB, so don't spend too much time at your pit stops because then you miss out on the party ride.

When we think of b-parties, I feel like we think of games, gifts, bar crawls and Vegas! But my second question is, what's your favorite thing you've ever done at a bachelor/bachelorette party? What's the best place to go?

While you might not yet be at the place in your life and/or relationship where you would be reading "What to Expect When Your'e Expecting"; another one of the most important days of your life next to having a child, as you are well aware because you're in the midst of planning, is your wedding.

Believe it or not, planning for these events is extremely similar in terms of 'what to expect.'

For starters, expect that in both cases you will be spending more money than you would like.  Therefore, since you will be hiring multiple vendors for your wedding and because getting married in Chicago is not cheap, you will want to know exactly what to expect from your vendors for how much you are paying. How will you be communicating?  Are emails, conference calls or meeting in person preferred? How often will/should you be meeting?   What aspects do they take care of in preparation or for the day of? If applicable, will they be there that day?

These are important questions to ask, so that un-like dating, one side does not have expectations that might not be met.

So now you've gotten proposals from vendors, asked what to expect, seen their price point and it's time to make decisions.  Similar to choosing your doctor and hospital, choose the vendors that you meet your needs. Who will you be the most comfortable with? Who will take care of you?

Finally, be flexible for the unexpected. While couples might have a birthing plan, sometimes, things change. Much like the fact that the weather is unpredictable in Illinois! The rain back-up might need to be put into action or the guests drink more vodka than expected and the caterer needs to get more; it's ok, they'll adjust. Sometimes you just have to go with the flow because marriage and family will throw you curve balls and there is no better time to start practicing.

It’s not a secret that the planning process can be stressful, especially as the day nears and RSVPs start to arrive. Or not. Not in a “no one’s coming to our wedding” way, but in an “our younger guests don’t seem to understand the need to send back their RSVPs” way. So now you have to start tracking them down…

Dependent on how far out you book your vendors, there tends a quiet period until the month leading up to the wedding. The vendors whose bills are dependent on guest count will typically ask for your numbers two weeks in advance to ensure adjustment for final payment. In addition, you will want to give yourself some time to create a seating chart if applicable. Thus the importance of the responses. While guests should be responding upon receiving an invitation immediately, unfortunately, this is not always the case.

Again, I always look to Emily Post for proper etiquette. How do I get my guests to respond?! Emily Post explains two to three weeks prior to the date; it is acceptable to contact guests who have not responded. If necessary, you can ask family members and bridesmaids to help.

And what about the responses that come back with additional guests written in? Emily Post reassures you that you are not rude in saying no. Traditionally included guests would be partners of those invited, whether that be married, engaged or living together. While allowing guests who are single to bring a date is thoughtful, the gesture is not required.

So call, email, tweet, facebook them - find out who is coming. The last thing you want to be doing before the rehearsal is adjusting the seating chart!

We are hope all of our readers had a wonderful Thanksgiving with friends and family.

The holidays are the perfect time for you to sit down with your family and start to really dive into your planning, budget and schedule. And while my hope for your planning is that it doesn’t require too much travel…unfortunately, I do know that many of you may not be planning in the city in which you reside.

There is no way to “sugarcoat” things, planning from out of town is difficult. It either requires many trips for multiple meetings or long weekends and trying to squeeze everything in at one time. I say a long weekend because unfortunately for your vendors, Saturdays and Sundays are difficult to meet. As weekends are when the majority of weddings and special events take place, many times vendors are already booked and unavailable for meetings, tastings and mock-ups. Vendors are cognizant of their clients schedule and travel time but availability often lends itself to Mondays and Fridays. If weekends are a non-negotiable, check with vendors what weekends they might have available if any.

To lessen the amount of meetings needed, try to get as organized as possible prior to your trips. Some couples want to meet vendors in person to get an idea of their “vibe”, which I totally support. However, initial inquiries and general questions can be taken care of via email, phone and conference call. Put all of your questions into one list and ask in the initial contact. I believe you can get an idea of the quality of service you are receiving by how long it takes for vendors to respond, how thoroughly they answer questions and while you can’t tell tone in an email, you can over the phone. This can weed out some of the potential vendors you might have scheduled meetings with. If you have any specifics in mind for décor, colors, menu, etc., email over pictures and specifics. This can help vendors put together a more detailed proposal for you prior to meeting.

Planning a wedding can be like a full time job and when you already have a full time job, it can be overwhelming. This is where a planner can really help! Along with suggesting vendors to work with and getting sample proposals for you to review, they will also help to schedule these meetings for you to make the most of what time you have in town.

Try to make the most of your planning and your trips to a minimum, unless you really feel the need to get in a good car sing-a-long every few weeks. Or is that just me?

As the holidays quickly approach, most couples are plagued by the question of “whose family will we spend them with? I want to spend them with mine." As a recently engaged couple, you might have faced this conundrum prior to this year- but maybe you have been with your respective families and this is your first real holiday choosing. Bum, bum, bum-

In a perfect world, your in-laws would live close enough that you could visit both each holiday. Or if in the event, families co-mingle, party at your place!

I don’t know about you though, but I have spent many a holiday with an anxiety-ridden mother who is over her in-laws and would prefer to spend time with her immediate family. And not that I would ever describe my dad as having anxiety, but he rarely abandons his seat in front of the television, where I know he is tuning out everything but the game.

The way it has been described to me, is that my parents grew up with extremely different family values. It was the late 1960s and early 1970s. My mom grew up on the North Shore of Chicago where her parents had 5pm cocktail hour on a regular basis, lots of pictures with cigarettes and entertaining their friends, very Mad Men. My dad, from Central Illinois (land of corn and insurance), was an all American boy in a very “American” family. His father was the Fire Chief, his mother was the school secretary, and he played American Legion baseball. I tend imagine him as part of The Wonder Years.

The disconnect between the two families - my Dad’s side, “(gasp) - they smoke and drink?”- My mom’s side, “why aren’t they smoking and drinking?” You can only talk about golf so much before the awkward Turkey, similar to that of the awkward turtle, waddles into the room.

This meant I grew up with seperate family holidays. Which as a child, who didn’t love having Christmas twice?! But, I tend to think this is where my mother’s anxiety stems from. Scheduling two sets of holidays as well as potentially two menus to create and/or traveling.

Being newly engaged, you might not have spent an enormous amount of time with each other’s families. This isn’t like high-school where his mom might ask you to stay for dinner if you are over after school. As independent adults, especially in the city of Chicago, there is a big possibility one or both of you are transplants. And while you might have spent a small amount of time with the “in-laws,” you are now in fact about to become legally bound to them. Every family has a very different dynamic with idiosyncrizes that only they can understand.

Like most of America, I love the trashiness of reality television. Bravo is listed as a “favorite channel” on my TiVo. And as well as the rest of the Real Housewives, I LOVE BETHANY FRANKEL. Last season, we watched as she boarded her bus for her cross country book tour. During a Q and A, an audience member asked how she felt about marrying into such a nuclear family. And while she is no Emily Post on proper etiquette, she did give what I thought to be smart advice, “Remember, these aren’t your parents; it’s like walking into another office and working for a new company.” Which I think to be especially poignant for the holidays.

Like everything else in relationships, it’s about compromise. My family this Thanksgiving, your family Christmas – and switch. Not that this isn’t what you had already planned to do- but more that of assurance that it’s okay to want to be with your own family for every holiday. It’s something that is hard to give up. But when it comes to family traditions, what’s most important is not what my family does different than yours, but that the two of you start your own family traditions, as you are now be each other’s family.

I recently watched an episode of “Say Yes to the Dress: Bridemaids”. First, I didn’t know there was a bridesmaid’s edition, ands econdly, let’s talk about “Bridezillas: the new generation”. In this particular episode, the bride had asked fifteen of her closest girlfriends to do her the honor of standing up in her wedding. However, before doing so she required a signed contract from all maids that they would do whatever she wanted.

While as a bride, this might seem like your dream come true, have all your friends at your beck and call, literally your “maids”; I can guarantee, when the glass slipper comes off your bridal foot and is placed onto the next Cinderella, playing the maid is not nearly as much fun as playing the princess. Not as much fun can cause resentment, even ruin friendships.

An associate of mine was recently the Maid of Honor to a girl whom she once considered a good friend. My associate thought she had done her duties up to this point. She “g-chated” the bride on an almost daily basis helping when advice is asked, was present and helpful with the bridal shower, bought the dress and planned the bachelorette party. And then things took a turn.

The bride started to feel her Maid of Honor was not doing enough/not being supportive enough/not excited enough. She took things into her own hands- or at least her own planning hands. And it would be the Maid of Honor’s duty to execute. Emails began electronically soaring, emotions flying and arguments brewing. I knew things were going sour when I walked past my associate’s desk and she was creating a power point map of Chicago with venue ‘call out boxes’ and ‘word bubbles’ for the detailed timeline of a bachelorette party more than three weeks away. She told me how she needed to finish the map as well as the catering proposal (that’s right- they were catering in dinner for one of the 2 days worth of events). Events including Friday dinner, Saturday morning sailing, catered dinner with Lingerie Shower and clubbing with bottle service. I could see the ‘word bubble’ forming above her head with nothing but dollar signs adding up.

When I started to pry into her MOH experiences a little more, she shared with me how challenging her friend was becoming. The bride had requested that her MOH take vacation days to travel to Ohio where the wedding planning was taking place to help with. The bachelorette party was getting what she felt to be out of control, but felt constrained from saying anything, as she did not want to upset the bride. When requests started to be demanded and not asked, unbeknownst to the bride, the friendship, at least for the Maid of Honor, started to swirl the drain and resentment began setting in.

Often times, when a bride asks her friends to stand up as bridesmaids and the closest relationship to be her maid of honor, the girls might think they are in for buying a dress, posing for pictures (insert dreams of Top Model photo shoots here) and flirting with cute groomsmen. However, the bride though can have other ideas and needs. Expectations rule every relationship and the bride/MOH relationship is no different.

In sticky situations of proper etiquette, I always look to the queen of etiquette herself- the real Emily Post. EmilyPost.com can answer almost any question for everyday social situations to of course proper wedding etiquette including what to expect from the bridal party.

-Yes, the attendants should pay for their attire- but not their flowers.

-Arrange their own transportation- while wedding hosts should provide accommodations.

-Be timely and communicative regarding travel arrangements and acquiring attire.

-Arrive at the specific times for all wedding-related events.

-Attend the rehearsal and rehearsal dinner; attend other pre-wedding events when feasible.

-Give an individual wedding gift to the couple or contribute to a group gift from all attendants.

-Assist the couple whenever possible.

-Be attentive to other guests at the wedding and reception.

Post also notes Maid of Honor Specific Duties as

-Helping select the bridesmaids’ attire.

-Organize the bridesmaids’ gift to the bride.

-Make sure bridesmaids heave their attire.

-Holds the groom’s ring and the bride’s bouquet during the ceremony.

-Witness the signing of the marriage certificate.

-Stands in the receiving line if there is one.

-Helps the bride during the reception (gathering guests for the cake cutting, dancing and the bouquet toss).

- Helps address invitations and place cards (nice but optional).

-Assists in hosting or organizing a pre-wedding part if the bridesmaids decide to have one (nice but optional).

At the end of the day, the most important thing is not what dress your attendants are wearing, if their shoes have been dyed to match or if a detailed bachelorette walking map was distributed in a timely matter. But that you are marrying (dare I say it at the risk of sounding cheesy) the man of your dreams. And that your family and friends are there to witness and support your union. Really their presence (not to be confused with presents – while those don’t hurt either) should be the most important display and expectation of support- that and the right strapless bra.

Brides find themselves negotiating at almost every turn and it is tiresome. We would prefer to provide our service at a fair price – one we can both live with – and make this transaction much easier. So all of our coupons and promotions have gone away and the base price is now lower for everyone.

What has been the response?

Well, the biggest winners are those summer brides who can now save as much as $250 on their four hour wedding trolley. They are thrilled. Couples who want hotel shuttles for their visiting guests now have a special rate rather than having to pay a premium and that can save them a few hundred dollars per trolley.

How can you afford to do this?

We are conditioned in the

to raise our prices each year and show growth. Prices just got too high. You see it in the news, the global economy has hit a point where it is adjusting, the housing market is adjusting, and everything is. We thought about what is a fair price for what we offer. The first and most asked question is always, where to start the planning process?

The answer lies within the question… where?

The search for your venue is not all that different from your search for the perfect guy- what was on your list of must have’s- or in your novel for that matter? “He has great style, outdoorsy and is a real people person”.

Translation: Is your style modern or traditional? Indoor or Outdoor space with rain back-up? (remember, Chicago weather changes by the hour) and how many guests are you looking to accommodate?

While I want you to savor the excitement of your new engagement, most venues can only house one event at a time and therefore, like Chicago apartments in spring- rooms go quickly! Typically venues book at least one year in advance (as if you haven’t been waiting long enough).

Just a quick recommendation, don’t set a date before you have checked availability, as you could be setting yourself up for disappointment. And the last thing anyone wants is for the planning process to start like a bad blind date. You might want to have a few potential dates in mind that you can discuss with family and friends.

The Chicagoland area has an overwhelming number of venues. The best resource guides are the gatekeepers to the industry…

PLANNERS! Hiring a “full planner”- a term used for a planner starting from the beginning, will help you to widdle down your options. They will take you only to the spaces and vendors that have all of the “musts” and meet your price point (or as close to your price point as possible). Planners will be able to contact the venues directly to provide you with date availability and cost comparisons. Think of them as a personal shopper.

Caterers- Catering companies typically have a list of venues in which they caterer on their websites. Parooz their sites, click on the links and make a list of the venues that peak your interest. If you have just a few questions- call the caterer! You might touch base with a friendly consultant who could point you in the right direction of different venue contacts, as well as be able to tell you capacities and styles. Though caterers do not have direct access to venue availability, they do know the rules and regulations for venues and have an idea of price point, not only for the space but for the big picture.
