A rainy day didn't get in the way of this couple tying the knot and having the wedding of their dreams. All photos by Mary Rose Photography.

Ed and Allison, on how they met...

"We met on Christmas Day back in 2009. We were both going on a Habitat for Humanity trip to Bogalusa, Louisiana that was organized by a mutual friend’s family. We spent the week building a house for a really great family in need."

Ed and Allison, on how they knew they were perfect for each other...

"We seemed to instantly jump to a point in our friendship that felt comfortable.  We never had an awkward 'getting to know each other' phase- we were immediately in constant contact and setting up time to make the 3 hour drive to see each other before we were even dating.  There was a natural connection that we just can’t explain that continues to draw us closer."

Allison, on why they decided to tie the knot in Chicago...

Ed was born and raised in the Chicago suburb of Park Ridge and I moved to the area in 2013 from western Michigan. I knew I wanted to be very hands on in every part of the wedding planning process and it was easier to do that with a local wedding.

Allison, on first looks, rainy days, and pulling off the perfect wedding...

"To maintain my calm, I knew I needed to see Ed before the ceremony so we planned for a first look on a bridge over the river in St. Charles. We ended up with some of the most amazing photos to capture the day..."
"...I expected to be a mess throughout the entire day, but I woke up calm and excited to marry Ed. Not even the weatherman who was predicting a dreary, dismal day could ruin my mood. We spent the morning apart and getting ready with our closest friends and family. Happy tears fell when we read the letters we had exchanged in place of gifts."

Ed, on his favorite memory from his wedding day....

"Taking pictures right after the first look and being able to spend some time with the people closest to us right before the ceremony was a great way to ease our minds and prepare for the rest of the day.  We were able to goof around, listen to some music and just enjoy the fact that in a few hours we would be getting married."

Allison, on her favorite memories from her wedding day...

"During the ceremony, Ed’s brother (who was officiating) had us take the time to look at each other and all the people surrounding us on our wedding day and really take it all in. The day moves so quickly and becomes a blur at times, but that moment will stick with me forever..."
"...The reception was exactly what we had hoped for. All the details (flowers, table designs, cakes, etc) I had obsessed over for the last year had come together better that I imagined..."
"...The dance floor was packed and a traditional dance off between Ed and his cousin kept it even more entertaining!"

Get inspired by this barefooted bride and her beautiful celebration at The Haight. All photos by Marion Photography.

Cassie, on how she and Matthew met...

"We met during our first month of undergrad through a mutual friend. We hit it off immediately and became good friends. Roughly 6 months later, we ended up sharing our feelings for each other and decided to date."

Cassie, on how Matthew proposed to her...

"Matthew joined my family and I on vacation on Nantucket Island off of the coast of Massachusetts. He had wrangled my brother and sister to set things up for him while we went out for drinks on our last night of vacation. While we were out, he suggested we watch the sunset at the beach we had been at the day before. We rode our bikes to the beach entrance, where there was a candle with a note attached to it. The note said "remember when...." And talked about the first time we met. Following the path to the beachfront, there were more candles. Each candle had a note reminding me of a moment in our relationship throughout the years. When we got to the last one, it said "remember the time I proposed to you on the beach on Nantucket?". When I turned around to look at him, he was on one knee with a ring. My sister and brother had hidden in the bushes surrounding us to record and photograph the entire thing. It was so magical."

Cassie, on her favorite part of her wedding day...

"My favorite part of our wedding day was probably the fact that I got to marry my best friend and man of my dreams. We got to spend the day celebrating with the people who meant the most to us. Having our close friends and family there to share our joy was the best feeling ever."

Cassie and Matthew, on why the chose to host their reception at The Haight...

"We chose the Haight because we love art, and we wanted a really unique space to have our wedding. When we first walked into the Haight many years prior, it was hosting an art show at the time. There are many sculptures and art pieces throughout the venue that made the space so beautiful in its own way. We wanted to have our wedding there just so we could feel like we were included in the works of art on our wedding day."

Cassie, on why The Haight was the perfect choice for her and Matthew...

"One thing that made the day so incredible for me was the piano on the first floor. My husband has mentioned over the years that he loves when I play piano and sing. Later in the evening, we escaped downstairs where I played the piano and we sang together. There was no one around and that moment was really special to us. I think the fact that the Haight has so many different pieces of furniture and props that are already in the space to use really adds to the uniqueness of the venue."

Matthew and Cassie's advice for couples en route to tying the knot...

"We would love to tell newly engaged couples to remember what the day is truly about and to prioritize that. At the end of the day, the wedding isn't about how much money you put into it or what your guests are going to think-it's about the fact that you get to marry the person you want to spend the rest of your life with. That should be your biggest priority..."
"...Make sure that throughout your engagement you prioritize the person you love and your relationship with them. You don't want your relationship to fall apart because you're more concerned with planning the wedding. Make your future spouse your priority. Secondly, make a list of the things that are most important for both of you on your wedding day. Make sure those things happen and let everything else go. Remember to not sweat the small stuff, because at the end of the day, you will still be married!"
