Real Wedding: Heidi Chapp and Alex Park

No comments:
Alex and I met through mutual friends at the Taste of River North in 2010. Afterwards, Alex wowed me by taking me to Durkins in Lincoln Park, where we posted up in the back room taking tequila shots and arguing over the Blackhawks and Redwings (as he’s from Chicago and my family is from Michigan). Three years later, he proposed to me while on vacation in Hawaii.

The day of the wedding was 73 degrees and sunny. We went to the Armour House late in the afternoon and had our first look in their grand staircase. Our photographer captured the moment perfectly – you can see how excited we were and how much fun we were already having. Our favorite part of the photos was heading over to the ice rink to capture some shots on the ice. It’s place that means a lot to both of us – Alex grew up playing hockey (you can still find him skating around at Johnny’s Icehouse) and I was a figure skater with a dad and brother who both played, as well.

The ceremony began just as the sun began to set, which made the lighting perfect for the ceremony. I walked down the aisle with my dad. It was truly amazing to see all our friends and family all dressed up and Alex at the end of the path with the natural outdoor beauty of the Armour House in the background.  From the first kiss to the last dance, it was one heck of a party and we had such a blast.

When we were introduced as Heidi and Alex Park for the first time, we came down the grand staircase in a Detroit Redwings and Chicago Blackhawks jersey, respectively. The speeches were a great combination of thoughtful words, old jokes and stories, and an occasional shot at Alex from his best man. For dessert, we had mini donuts and milkshakes. The first dance had us doing the Texas two-step to Darius Rucker’s "Wagon Wheel."

We also had a homemade Polaroid camera “selfie booth” to help us capture the night where our guests could take a selfie and leave a comment on a board that we have up in our condo today to remember the day and all of those around us. We're thankful for all those that helped make our wedding so special, especially our family and friends. Cheers!
