Real Wedding: Diana Urbonas & Michael Humann

"Our wedding was originally set for November 3rd, 2012. However, a month before the wedding date my fiancĂ©’s mother got into a very serious car accident driving home from getting her dress altered. We decided to postpone the wedding until March in order to give her enough time to recover to see her only son get married. We would not have had it any other way. Going through it has thought me so much about supporting each other in relationships and throughout your marriage. While I planned my wedding, putting together all of the little details, it was truly about the loved ones we had there to celebrate beside us.

"My wedding was a modern winter wedding with purple “crisscross” designs throughout my details. Being in Chicago I was definitely concerned about the weather, especially since we'd had a foot of snow four days before! However, the snow layered on the ground made for beautiful pictures and the fur wrap was a perfect accessory!

"My aunt created a beaded sash for me that had details on both front and back. What I love about my sash is that the front has a broach in the center, and when my wedding day is over I can wear the broach for anniversaries to come! She also made my veil and purse for the day.

"I feel like everyone should make their wedding special to them in their own way. Your day is about what is important to you. One thing that was very important to me is to bring in my Lithuanian culture into the details of the day. Along with a regular wedding cake, I had a Lithuanian wedding cake called “raguolis” that was served at the wedding. I had sewn an amber charm that has been in my family underneath my dress as my “something old”. Also, my ring bearer box was a wooden box from my grandparents and helped them be remembered on my special day as well. Bringing in those important memories, cultures, or things that you love makes it more you!" -Diana
