GUEST POST WRITTEN BY KASEY LARSON, PRESIDENT AND CO-FOUNDER OF DBY EVENTS & INVITATIONS
This season’s couples are wondering when to order and when to mail their custom Save the Dates and Invitations… for a local wedding with mainly local guests, Save the Dates should be mailed between five and seven months before the event. For mainly out of town guests, destination weddings and events taking place on holiday weekends allow 11-12 months. You’ll want to add at least six weeks to the timing to allow for custom designs to be created, and proofs & production.
Wedding invitation ensembles should be ordered approximately five to six months before the wedding and mailed two months prior. Reply dates should allow enough time to follow up on non-replied guests, and determine the seating arrangement. We recommend one month prior to the wedding.
Overall a timing guide for completely custom invitations:
Save the Dates: order 12 months prior and mail 7-9 months prior
Wedding Invitations: order 6 months prior and mail 2 months prior, reply date 1 month prior
Save the Dates: order 12-14 months prior and mail 1 year prior
Wedding Invitations: order 8-9 months prior and mail 3-4 months prior, reply date 1 month prior
Ceremony Programs: order 3 months prior and view a proof 6 weeks prior
Seating Charts: order 2 months prior and view a proof 2 weeks prior
Dinner Menus: order 2 months prior and view a proof 6 weeks prior
Other Paper Goods
Shower Invitations: order 3 months prior and mail 4-6 weeks prior
Social Events: order 3 months prior and mail 4-6 weeks prior
Seasonal Holiday Cards: order by Halloween and mail by December 15th
It is never too soon to begin the stationery process. Don’t wait until the last minute to order - and don’t forget to plan a budget for it, either. Set the appropriate tone for your event, allow your designer enough time to craft a piece that expresses you and then sit back to enjoy the compliments from your guests on your wonderful taste!
